Thanks Dianne - These are Red-breasted Mergansers, and these days I can always tell when there's a female around, because the males start doing this dorky dance. It's a riot - sometimes 5 or 6 males doing their contortions around a single female who seems to either ignore them or chase them away (actually, I just read that that's her part of the little dance...)! Funny thing is that it seems to be her Tammy Faye Bakker mascara that sets them off, because earlier in the winter the females didn't have the dark eyes like you can see on this one..
