The Australian National Maritime Museum was unveiling another few panels of the Welcome Wall this day. The Welcome Wall recognizes people who have migrated to Australia. I was there that day as the original matriarch and patriarch of the Stehbens Lister and Strand families in Australia were being recognized on the Welcome Wall. Detlef Staeben and his wife Anna Grube arrived in Maryborough, Queensland on 30 August 1865, and brought with them the 11 members of their extended family. My wife's ancestors included two First Fleet convicts who arrived at Sydney Cove (now Circular Quay), one bay away from the photo point on 26 Jan 1788. Robert Forrester and Philip Devine (aka Tennant) arrived on the "Scarborough" and the "Alexander" respectively. The First Fleet was escorted by the "Supply" and "Sirius". Today the smaller Sydney ferries are named after the vessels of the First Fleet, including Scarborough, Alexander, Supply, Orange Grove, Lady Penrhyn, Borrowdale and Fishburn.
