From 1976 until 1988 the Club Med Bora Bora was on the west of the island (near Vaitape). During this time Motu Tapu was was very much used by Club Med. Club Med did not own the Motu, but they had some kind of a lease - it was for Club Med ONLY. Wind surfing was done at the Motu. A lot of GMs spent several hours of every day over there just staring back at Bora Bora. The Motu was the place for 'au natural' (nude) sunbathing.

That all ended in 1988 when a huge storm destroyed the village. A couple of years later (1994) Club Med was reopened in the Bay of Faapore, in the southeast of the island.

So Hilion and Tamataroa you both are right from your point of view.
