"WHITBY" The Bigger 270 Degrees Picture~~~

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

This photo was taken in 2009 from the corner of the Dock-end and Endeavour wharf...Much has happened since then...The fishing fleet has gone and so too has the Grand Turk square rigged man-o'-war..Sold to a French buyer for less than £two million..The 300 year old Angel Hotel is now clad entirely in scaffolding as it undergoes a multi million £pound make-over..The 100 year old swing bridge has been re-painted a rather bright red colour.

Sadly, due to the ravages of nature, there has been a land-slide under the row of cottages on the sky-line above the blue boat WY 102 on the far side of the harbour..

As I write this, contractors are demolishing the 150 year old cottages, brick by brick..There is no vehicular access to this terrace and a temporary road has been constructed to allow cherry-pickers and a dumper truck onto the site..

It is my intention to record the event with my camera once the demolition has been completed...

Jim Evans (AXOTA) on March 11, 2010

I used the ArcSoft Panoramio Maker to create this shot..The Nikon CoolPix 8700 has a feature which helps to stitch a number of sequential photos together..a very clever piece of technology!

*Jon Martínez Soto..I'm glad you like this one Jon ;>)

cindy555~~~much appreciated Marion..I look forward to seeing those QM2 shots ;>)

Lesley Rigby---I'm delighted and flattered Lesley...It means a lot to me when people add my photos to their faves..the raison d'etre for making the effort!

Dubravka..you are most welcome..I'm glad you dropped in. Many thanks ;>)

Faintlightofdawn..The view to the immediate left will change very soon when the GRAND TURK leaves this berth for a permanent home in sunny France.

Billy B@rk..So one of my favourite subjects is leaving home Billy..I hope they find a suitable replacement..highly unlikely I should think..

Warm regards every one ;>)

A most entertaining and WONDERFUL capture, My dearest Jim! I have been admiring it for the last fifteen minutes at least! I feel as though I have visited, and what a grand time I had! :)

There is So much to see and take in .... "Our Mellissa", "Subway," "The New Angel Hotel," Motorcycles, Car of many shapes and sizes, both moving and parked, "Fish and Chips," people scattered about, So many boats ..... Big boats, small boats, tug boats .... Birds all around, Happy birds ~ perched, flying and floating, Bridges, Delightful buildings and shops, Houses, docks, LOTS of chimneys, Staggered trees on this hillside, the bluest sky and water, nets, flags, ropes, more birds, more boats, and beautiful old buildings way up on top of the hill. The entertainment is endless.

Thoroughly enjoyed, Jim! Absolutely fantastic!

Well done, my friend!

Warmest wishes to you,

Mary Alice

I can only agree to what all the others have already said! This is a fantastic panoramic picture, Jim! Zooming in twice enables you to take a virtual walk around Whitby harbour and that's exactly what I did! It almost feels as if I'm right there! You did an excellent job and I'm nominating it Best of Panoramio! Best regards, Anne

geomanncer on March 12, 2010

Leo Roundtree..it was about time I got round to doing a panoramic..it helps to make sense of so many other single photos in Panoramio. Not even you could get lost in Whitby Leo ;>))) That Y* means a lot to me buddy!

jymsn123~~~I'm glad you like it Jeff ;>)

jim66~~~~Greetings Jim...the hardest part was clicking the mouse ;>)

Dieter Hockertz~~~your encouraging comment is much appreciated Dieter;>)

MaryAlice...As always , it a special occasion when you drop in MA..I am delighted that you found it so interesting and your fulsome appraisal is inspirational...Thumbnails rarely do justice to panorama's so I'm glad you enjoyed your tour around the harbour..In fact your keen observations have made me look again..I had not even noticed the sandwich bar!!

Ghiocela----You are most welcome Simona..I was lucky to have bright blue skies and warm sunshine to light up the show!! I am most grateful for your visit and generous appraisal ;>)

Lesley Rigby~~~Just out of the shot Lesley is ROXY dog...chasing all the flies!! and you are quite right, the township was quiet this time and it was mid-afternoon...my own boat is moored, almost out of view, to the far right of this photo!

sugarbag1~~~Hello David..thanks for the affirmation..but with scenery like this, it would be difficult not to get a result ;>)

zbynda..Good to see you...I don't know about champions league..I'm fortunate in living so close to the sea..and that's champion by me ;>))

John de Crom...I'm grateful for your invaluable comment John...;>)

©junebug~~~How nice to find you here Anne...may I express my gratitude for your thoughtful words and kind assessment ;>)

geomanncer~~~That's most kind of you to say so..thank you so much ;>)

Freddie 7 Samantha~~haha!! Sam..now I'm going to have some explaining to do ;>) me on drugs?? Well maybe I do take a tad too many Paracetamols ;>) Since you have now broadcast to the world your current Dealer Status, you wont mind if I print your email address below ;>)) You could make a fortune selling all that VIAGRA you stock!!

Joking apart..an accolade so generous, coming from one so talented, is indeed an honour..big hugs back xx

Lesley...maybe I had a mis-spent youth and maybe I should have tried SPEED or some other hallucagenic concoction..but at the end of the day..common sense prevailed.. so what you have is a boring old f--t!

Thanks every one for taking the time out to stay a while ;>)
