"WHITBY" The Bigger 270 Degrees Picture~~~

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

This photo was taken in 2009 from the corner of the Dock-end and Endeavour wharf...Much has happened since then...The fishing fleet has gone and so too has the Grand Turk square rigged man-o'-war..Sold to a French buyer for less than £two million..The 300 year old Angel Hotel is now clad entirely in scaffolding as it undergoes a multi million £pound make-over..The 100 year old swing bridge has been re-painted a rather bright red colour.

Sadly, due to the ravages of nature, there has been a land-slide under the row of cottages on the sky-line above the blue boat WY 102 on the far side of the harbour..

As I write this, contractors are demolishing the 150 year old cottages, brick by brick..There is no vehicular access to this terrace and a temporary road has been constructed to allow cherry-pickers and a dumper truck onto the site..

It is my intention to record the event with my camera once the demolition has been completed...

Hello Steve111...its good to see you bud!...I'm up to the eyeballs in work just now..mainly due to the boat causing problems again..I just can't take the risk of going to sea knowing that something is wrong..so it's a matter of high drying her, removing both the engine and out-drive for major repairs..there is no other option steve..there is no such thing as scrapping her..Hopefully, the work should be good for a few more trouble free years.

Cheers ;.)

AXOTA, I just took my slowly walk here!I got more kilometars for only 5-6 min., and I saw many things - many and very pretty boats, ships, beautiful houses shine reflection in silent water, many birds, the jetty and the bridge and go back to see much beauties in shadow of the sun! So nice and with love collected so much scene in one great picture! Congratulation for this very long and wide perfect and with beautiful mood Panorama! It is more than BEST OF in Panoramio! Greetings! Maya

First, may I say how pleased I am on reading all these wonderful comments....I draw much inspiration and pleasure from such encouraging remarks..

steve111~~~~It's going to be another week at least before she returns to the water ;>(

Ghiocela...Simona It's such a pleasure to know that you called in ;>) I appreciate your vote ;>)

Gabor Retei...Greetings Gabe ;>) It was a hard decision to make..the choice is endless but I needed a robust camera with lots of goodies that will hopefully last me for many years. The Pentax K-7 seems to fit the bill..I have yet to take a single decent shot with it..but given time I know it will be OK..I'm keeping the Nikon 8700..It takes a mean photo ;>)

Sarah O~~~Hello my friend..I am so grateful for your visit and vote..my goodness Sarah, you are such a dear..you must never think that by honouring me with a visit that it is in some way a bother...I'm always delighted to read your friendly comments and there will always be a big welcome for you... any-time ;>)

MaryAlice...and as for my favourite sweet Georgia gal...a visit from you is a real treat, you say the nicest things MA and your appraisals mean a great deal to me ;>)

picsonthemove ~~~~~Hiya pics ;>) My antics down at the boat yard are legendary..It is said that Noah built the Arc in less time than it takes me to repair one very modest boat ;>)

gor.maja~~~~It is with much pleasure that I read your generous appraisal Maya..and I am so happy that you enjoyed taking in the scenery here in my home town. The day was perfect, clear skies, warm spring sunshine, clean sea air and that unmistakable scent of the sea..Given such good conditions, it would have been hard not to succeed...Your friendly visit and thoughtful words leave me feeling breathless ;>)

jgevans~~~You are most welcome Jean and I am delighted to see you sharing your words of wisdom and encouragement again..Thank you so much for your generous appraisal..

Once again my friends, I value your feedback and wonderful comments ;>)

Kind regards every one ;>)
