Hi Rock, It is on a Rock (no pun intended)in the middle of the Long Island Sound. Very odd as it is surrounded by deep water. When the Glacier retreated, millions of years ago, it formed the Long Island Sound. It left Long Island and this lonely rock.*Ray

Lovely picture, it feels very serene out there. I love the broken reflection on the water. Great colors to match the mood. Greetings from Germany, susan

Actually this the lighthouse is called Stratford Shoals. As noted it sits out in the approximate center of Long Island Sound and is a very popular turning mark for numerous sailboat races during the sailing season in New York and Connecticut.

Thank you Stretch for your visit and you are correct, it is Stratford Shoals. Most of us fishermen on Long Island refer to it as "Fly Island" as when you anchor to close you get unindated with Flies...*Fondly, Ray..Miller Place, L.I.

Like Stretch said it is Stratford shoals, I was on the last Coast Guard crew at that light. We were turning it into a automatic lighthouse (unmanned). Beautiful shot of the place. Keith S.
