[1974] A 65ft Korean Tuna Boat stuck on Enderbury east reef. Engine failure, the wind and wave beached it. They stayed out, for as long as it took, till the hole was full. A glass blower was an important member of the crew then. He recycled soda and beer bottle glass and made floats for the nets. Hemp rope that was used for the nets and around the glass floats was dipped in oil to keep it from rotting in the salt water. Lost floats would wash up over the reef, battered and scratched, but seldom broke. The glass was 1/4" or more in thickness. I still have one today.
