It's a real beauty! I love any photos of those sailing barques, and especially those, when the sailors are up in the masts.

Thank you Inessa, for sharing it.

I have seen it on the website! Thank you very much!

Greetings, May

...now you're pulling my chain, right?!?

The way I figure it, May, "there was Alinghi (and a fine ship and crew all-that-money-could-buy bought) but now that the 2009 regatta is cancelled and the Germans bought your captain and the Maoris an extra 2 years to prepare their revenge"... call it "The End of an Era!" :-)

Bartowian, don't sell the skin of the bear, before the bear is caught, I'd say! ;))

You don't imagine, that Alinghi won't do its preparations in the meantime as well just to remain ahead, do you? :)

And if it is the end, it's great for a small landlocked country to have been twice the first country outside the USA and New Zealand to win the America's cup in sailing. I say "Swiss precision"! ;) I know, with the help of an international crew, not to forget one or two Germans ;)

What concerns the money, they've all had plenty of money, except the Maoris and if the latter win in 2011, it's just as good for me! :)

the "Green Machine" South Africans were rather short of money, the German team wasn't fat with it. Unsure about the Chinese.

As most do, I always have a tendency to cheer for the underdog (if a nice bunch, making the right impression), I was extremely glad about the first loss by the Americans, and the round-robin results since. I hooted with delight about the Swiss win, bad-mouthing them at the same time (but of course, how could one not! ;-). But it's somebody else's turn, and that new Maori war "line dance" includes same fantastic facial expressions, that will freeze the buns of, especially, every Swiss in the Alinghi team -- what kind of a name is that anyways, "Alinghi"... he-he. no need to answer that one, it was just YOUR CHAIN BEING PULLED!

I agree with you, Bartowian! Me too, I am on the side of the weaker, the smaller, the outsider… and that was the case, when you consider that no one seriously would have thought a crew under Swiss management could reach this goal.

The "Swiss Navy" has been a running gag worldwide… up to the Alinghi time, not now anymore. Btw. the name sounds nice, almost like a Swiss cowbell, don't you think so?! ;))

But I get a little allergic, when I note some kind of envy especially in German emmissions on TV. I give you an example under hundreds. When Federer won the masters cup last week in Shanghai; on German news, all they mentioned in a sentence, was, that Federer was bad at the first round and that his adversary in the last round was a beginner in the master's cup. They have a way to put down merits of people from other nations, which we (the Swiss underdogs) get allergic upon. And that's always the case. Look at the emmissions about the won medals in Olympic games, as if the games where a race, which country got the most medals. I dislike this attitude deeply, maybe, because I know, we can never catch up with a population of ours less than a tenth. ;)

So for us it was a special pleasure, that we won the America's cup against the USA and all others. Next time, me too, I am with the Maoris or even the Faroers, in case they try to get the cup! ;))

Getting allergic about anything said on TV is, well, unnecessary. Associating anyone to it because of nationality, well, you know what you think of that yourself... ;-) Federer is probably the best tennis player ever, but that I should think more or less of anyone just because he was born with a right to a passport of the same nationality... is rather silly! If you think the hoopla about counting medals and nationality by some among your European neighbors, well, they don't come anywhere close to the U.S. They ruined Olympics for me when they allowed professionals to compete, I don't care about sports where money seems to be the deciding factor -- including the America's cup, for which I've never held much interest, quite frankly.

I was actually pulling legs! ;)) I agree 100 %, that it's the person and his/her performance which counts and not his passport, origin or education. And that's true for anything, not only sports.

but agreeing is so boring, right?!? the conversation fizzles so quickly.... :(
