Hi! Just to clarify - the Halifax explosion was in 1917, and as it occurred in the North End Narrows, it did not affect the area that this house is in. Citadel Hill effectively deflected the shock waves from most of the South end. So the black stuff on the house is just plain ol' dirt.

That house in on Tobin Street, not South Street, I'm sitting in it right now. Ditto on the dirt, but they've cleaned it up now so it looks less dirty.
