This phenomenon remains unexplained. Please submit any ideas. These are structures natural. This is a small portion of a long fence, which all looked like this on a sunny morning after recent snowfall.

It snowed and snow piled up solidly on top of the fence. The sun came out, heated up the black metal finials, and the snow directly around the metal melted away. However, it was still cold enough that the remaining snow remained in between the finials, leaving the snow ghosts. Or not, I'm just making this up.
