Tell us about the Shrine, Ah-Pong, please. And the baskets inside, the sheafs and baskets outside must all have significance.

Thanks again for this visit.

Ian

pivatana, Vielen Dank!!

Ian, my pleasure!! It's the Shrine to my Ancestor (Zhong Surname) of Fengshun County. To give you an idea, there are about 5,000 Chinese surnames or xing(姓). Each of the cities/counties/villages in Mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong (and overseas Chinese community in each S.E. Asian countries) would erect ancestral shrines if there is sizable members of each particular surname. Inside of the Shrine, there are lots of name plates of past generations that share the same surname. Basically, it showcases a family tree/genealogy. I didn't get inside but went straight to my ancestral tomb nearby So you might take a look at this picture to have an idea what it looks like. --> (http://www.panoramio.com/photo/9931411)

The baskets and those mumbo-jumbo got nothing to do with the Shrine. Ha Ha Ha! ;P The Shrine will get cleaned up and open next time a ceremony is held. A considerable number of ethnic Chinese in Thailand descended from this area of China! :)))

Greetings from Thailand, Ah-Pong of B@ngk☺k

Hoi John, dank u hartelijk voor uw regelmatige bezoeken.

Thanks a lot for visiting, miyo0117. The first time I've learned Zen in Japanese is written as 禅. This is a Shrine to my ancestors with Surname 鍾. :D

Does the shrine belong to the village or the private person? We also have many ancestral shrines belonging to the private families in the countrysides in Vietnam. Greetings, nguyentran

ƤōƝƓ on April 1, 2010

Hi nguyentran, I've learned about ancestral veneration in Vietnam from many documentaries as well. Ancestral veneration is common in Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, and Korean cultures.

The shrine belongs to both the village and descendant of the Surname Zhong from this village.

Thanks for your interests, Ah-Pong
