WOW .. THATS VERY HISTORIC!

Thank you all for your comments. redi, there is a tower called the 'Great Tower' which is higher than the rest of the castle.

According to Wikipedia, the castle was used as a location for a Led Zeppelin video and a Terry Gilliam film.

This is a great shot, Matthew. Did you shoot it with a wide-angle lens, maybe 18-24 mm? Love the muted colors and brooding clouds.

Matthew Walters, on July 18, 2007, said:

Thanks Chip. Close guess with the lens, it's 12-24mm.

I've darkened the clouds a little, but other than that there's no photoshop this time.

Great shot Matthew! When I see such great photos I regret having only a compact camera... :(, It does not allow me to shoot wide angle pictures

Matthew Walters, on August 5, 2007, said:

Thanks Vasco. You have some pretty impressive photos yourself, with 'only' a compact camera :)

Vasco Pires, on August 5, 2007, said:

Thanks Matthew. As Mr. Chip says: It's the photographer and not the camera that makes a good photo. He's probably wright, although luck is an essential factor with me, also

Cheers

luck is an essential factor - for me too, until I get the power to control the weather!

British weather? Mmmm.... Luck is INDEED an essential factor!!!

BTW, an amazing angle for a great pic.

Cheers

Thanks Reynald. I'll go back one day when it is sunny. Of course as the castle is in Wales, I stand even less chance of great weather!

Reynald.d.Chatillon, on October 2, 2007, said:

Maybe you can shoot it for HDR processing. Then you can play to get a dramatic image! Clouds look fantastic in HDR, as here or here. I like the subdued effect, not the strong hdr

Matthew Walters, on October 2, 2007, said:

Good point, I might try faking it with the original RAW image. You're right the clouds in those two look great - I am also not too keen on the 'overcooked' effect that sometimes happens.

Reynald.d.Chatillon, on October 2, 2007, said:

Yes. Photomatix software can indeed "HDR-ize" a RAW image. Anyway, subtelty is soooo hard to get.
