As I lived in Craiglais at the foot of Constitution Hill (1955-60) I have vivid recollection of maybe a hundred female students running up the hill at night in white nighties from The Alex (Alexander Hall). Was it a Rag Week stunt, or just done for the sheer hell of it? Craiglais was demolished a long time ago. Its windows used to get smashed by stones thrown up by the Autumn gales...very exciting to a 3-year old on the first floor! They were fixed by Mr Massin, the glasier who was my hero at that time, because he used to give my brother and I free lumps of putty... Happily I have a British Railways poster of almost exactly this view. If you did a Google Search on 'Claude Buckle' you'd probably find this poster image of Aberystwyth with a bright yellow sandy beach!
