son numéro de porte est le 1; le Canada est à quelques mètres au nord de la maison (à droite sur la photo).

This is actually a photo of the "Griggs-Steele Store," named after the Griggs (Loyalists) family that ran it during, and a few years after, the Revolutionary War, supplying both Loyalists and Revolutionaries from its pier (behind). John Griggs' daughter, the "Belle of Windmill Point," married British Capt. John Steele. The structure, beautifully-renovated into a seasonal dwelling, is now owned by a couple from the US Deep South whose hobby it is to "collect" buildings that straddle international borders. Appropriately, it does exactly straddle the US/Canada border--contrary to what "Gumby" Bourret states in French. The border goes right through the middle of the small building! If you look carefully, you can see the obelisk (surveyor's) monument directly in front of its front door which was erected in 1820 as part of the Treaty that finally settled the then still-disputed border. The photo was taken on the Canadian side. Visiting this place is getting very complicated now that Homeland Security is trying to tighten up these un-fenced, open public road areas along the Vermont border.
