S Wellens and Sons, Funeral Directors, was established in 1870 at Back High Street by Abraham Wellens a woollen draper, tailor and undertaker. The firm moved in 1891 to shop premises at 54 Long Street. Grandson, Billy Wellens,then built new premises at 119/121 Long Street in 1955. The firm now is now fifth generation.
