Considerable amounts of maple sugar and syrup are made in the Myersdale-Salisbury region, and there is an anual Maple Festival held in Myersdale in late March each year. Maple sap is collected, concentrated and boiled down into sugar and syrup in buildings such as this on local farms. The vents and stacks on the roof of the building are to release gasses and water vapors from the boiling process.
