This is an interesting photo. I spent a week with some friends a number of years ago who live across the river in Aylmer QUE. So spent a lot of time riding a bike around Parliament hill and the park area on the river but never saw this! I wonder when it was done. at any rate I really like it! BTW I do see the Peace Tower and the library of Parliament!

Thanks, Syl and Bruce. Yes, those are the landmarks, to the left of the crane. (It helps to look "Original size.")
This is a late afternoon picture, so you can see that the sculptures are near the riverbank quite a bit west of the central area, beside parkland that is much used for walking and biking.
I don't know, but they may still be "in process." I shot this in Nov. 2005, when our son's wedding party came here for photos. Someone in the group recognized that the sculpture was in the park, seeing people enjoy his creations!

Thanks, Anne and Christian. I think the "almost like people" look is part of their charm.

I saw many similar "balanced stone" sculptures in Vancouver in the Sunset Beach / Granville Island / False Creek area a number of years ago (2002 or 2003?). I wonder if the same artist visited Ottawa? Here is one that was created at about the same time, but not in the right area. I think it was created by some else, but I too watched the artist at work. He would select a stone to balance and spin it, literally drilling a small balancing point into the stone below. See my photo here: photo 2499912
Yours is very cool, showing so many all at once, and a nicely framed photo too!

The artist has posted a few photos of his own, so I Googled his last name. (His full name is John Felice Ceprano.) Here's a link to one of the articles I found.

Every year ice in the river knocks them down, and every year the sculptor does something new!

Thanks so much, Marilyn. I have seen this on Flickr as well. Without people like you, who take the time and interest to share some of the worlds' most stunning occasions, our brilliant world would begin to subside into parochial serfdom, all over again!

Thank you for visiting, sueinkanata, and for taking time to comment. Our world is filled with such a rich variety of things, if only we take time to notice!
