Beautiful picture looking back in to the marina from the lock.

This picture is not, however, of Darwin Harbour. This is a picture of the Cullen Bay Marina. You can enter Darwin Harbour from here.

Cullen Bay Marina in Darwin. The provincial city of Darwin (population 190,000) has an eerie colonial feel about it. Gazing across the harbour on a hot day you can visualize English ships arriving from the Kingdom to this major port, loaded with Victorian furniture, provisions, weapons and tea; with the Aboriginal islands of Bathurst and Melville just out of reach in the ocean, yet to be conquered. Otherwise the city, featuring grid-system streets full of commercial buildings and also some quieter but undistinguished residential areas, has little appeal to the visitor. Catering to the tourist industry, it is a base rather than a destination.
