This one i love, the picture looks vintage to me..

Hank Waxman, on June 4, 2007, said:

It probably looks vintage because you've seen this shot in Western Movies for 6o years or so. They call it John ford Point because he loved it so, and used it, in one way or another, in many of his movies. I was there when a bunch of tourists came by, and the Indian man rode out onto the point to ensure its timeless, vintage feel.

Rafael (Retrocool), on June 4, 2007, said:

Ah that would make much sense! Now i wonder if the indian man came out on purpose? ha ha ha

This is a vintage print that has been rephotographed. Notice the weave of the paper it the original was printed on. Probably a published image. Minor cracking may be noticed in darker areas (especially). Tell me differently, please.

Rest easy hiroshigi boy, the shot is real, although it is scanned from a 4x6 glossy print..

It might be helpful to know the history of my Panoramio experience. By today’s standards I joined “in the early days.” My first picture was posted on December 28, 2006. you can check that out by checking the very last picture, on the last page of my gallery. It is a winter shot of New York’ Sagamore Inn, and it’s Panoramio picture number 250725 (all pictures are sequential from the beginning).

I really got caught up in the fun of posting right a way, and I started going through all of my digital files for more pictures that I considered worthy of posting. But there were others that I loved that weren’t digital.

I visited Monument Valley and took this particular picture in April, back in 1994 or 1995. This was before digital photography, or at least before I was digital. I took a number of prints from my vacation album, scanned them and posted them. Check out other photos from that time frame, specifically those tagged Arizona or New Mexico. You will find they are all scanned from photos exhibiting the same textural qualities you identified.

You will also note that all of these pictures were posted to Panoramio on January 8, 2007; less than two weeks after my very first post. The shot in question, John Ford Point in Monument Valley was photo number 345937. That means Panoramio had grown by 95,212 photos in the 11 days between my first post and this one.

I trust you will rest easier. Best regards from New Jersey, USA.

I'm glad you like it SEIMA. I just finished re-reading my comments to hiroshigi boy, at it all seems so long ago that I first joined Panoramio.

Best wishes,

Hank

VERY Impressive photo (and your Russian is pretty good too (ochen harasho)). I usually only give one word comments because it takes so long to type out on my cell phone. This is one splendid picture. I was through the area in 1976 and didn't have a camera - so thanks for image. Cheers,

Hank Waxman, on July 26, said:

You're most welcome, Itallica. Thanks too for your many comments. My Russian comes from a program called Google Translate. It helps...a lot!

Best regards,

Hank

hello Hank, That's too clever(and honest) and now I've learned something new.

It takes four minutes to view/download eac photo (3 to access 1 to go back) on my cell phone. Soon my battery will need recharging. I wilL stop at your age and continue my perusal another week. Cheers, tery

Hello Hank,

sorry if this is a repeat comment - my cell phone is not reliable - Tony Hillerman has 18 mystery novels set around the Four Corners area based on Dectective Joe Leaphorn and Officer Jim Chee of the Nahajo tribal police. If you like the soutwest and enjoy 'who dunnit's you'll appreciate the easy reads. Wikipedia offers a good synopsis. Hillerman has also written about Canyon de Chelly Cheers, Tery
