Great shot Matthew Greetings from Canada Syl
Matthew Walters, on July 24, 2007, said:
Thanks Syl. I had to crouch quite low for this and shoot nearly vertical. There's a really ugly building directly behind the statue.

Very profound conversation... Cheers!

Ah, the art of conversation! Talking about conversation, (1) I want to say "Thank You" for the forum you set up in Google Groups. I was unable to connect to Panoramio due to a problem with my ASDL provider (Telefonica), then I found a solution in the forum, and now I'm back... (2) Why is it that I get the message, "Sorry, but only moderators can read topics in this forum" when I try to open the Questions & Support section (in Panoramio's forums)? Cheers!
Matthew Walters, on July 27, 2007, said:
Hi Nicolas, glad to have been of assistance. I've raised the second point with Eduardo, so hopefully this will be available to all again soon.

Hi artwall - yes, it would be an interesting conversation to listen-in on.

great photo mathew. these look gold encrusted statues! they are in better shape than my 'illuminated man ' statue from my local beach!
Matthew Walters, on July 28, 2007, said:
Hi Steandeb - I like your latest couple of views, particularly this one.
I expect that 'my' statue is cleaned regularly, as Broad Street is quite busy with buses. The three of them are lucky to not be drowned every day by the incoming tide.

A fine work of real art! Engineers with the 'Midas' touch!

Good shot, almost seem superimposed to the cloud background...but I know it is just the lighting and the position you were kneeling from or maybe standing from!
Matthew Walters, on July 30, 2007, said:
Thanks retrocool. Yes, I had to look twice and wondered if I'd forgotten planting the sky in place. As you say, it must be a happy coincidence of my position and viewing angle, also the sun was quite low (8:15 on a Sunday morning - that's also why the panorama of the park is so uncluttered by people)

Thanks Gerry!

hi mathew i need help! can you tell me how to upload a photo i have got. at the moment it wont upload because it says it exceeds 5kb. is there a way around this?
Matthew Walters, on August 2, 2007, said:
Hi steandeb. I guess you mean greater than 5mb? If you have Picassa, the best option would be to reduce the image size by scaling, or perhaps reduce the image dpi. (Is the file actually bigger than this?

Hi Matthew. You should thank the ugly building, because it forced you to achieve a tremendous photo. If it was shot with a regular angle, it probably wouldn't be as great.
Congratulations, this shot is fabulous!

Hi Matthew. This shot grabbed me at the thumbnail level, and kept its promise of "interesting and graphically exciting" right up through original size. good work.

Wonderful shot Matthew, unfortunately I don't know these statues. Can you explain something about them? Ciao :)
Matthew Walters, on August 13, 2007, said:
Thanks Hank!.
badge, the three were very important engineers in the 18th Century (James Watt improved the steam engine to effectively create the industrial revolution). Wikipedia is a good source of information, look here

Matthew, if you like stories about the early inventors and their contribution, you might check out "Electric Universe" by David Bodanis. The whole first part of the bookis filled with great human interest stories about some of the greats (Bell, Edison etc.)
Matthew Walters, on August 14, 2007, said:
Thanks for the tip, Hank.
Hans Sterkendries, on September 2, 2007, said:
Great point of view! Do you remember how late it was when you took it because the light is hitting the statues perfectly?
Matthew Walters, on September 2, 2007, said:
Thanks, Hans. It was about 8:15 am.

Hi Matthew. I took a shot of this yesterday but i have to say yours is better. Don't you just hate that when it happens. Guess it means i'll just have to have another trip into Birmingham.
Matthew Walters, on February 11, 2008, said:
Thanks, Steve. The trick is to get down low and look up - that way you don't get the old registry office in the background.
(I was there early on a Sunday, so didn't with suffer the traffic too much, either.)
