Thanks! The reflexions and a little water on the ice can almost make it feel like flying...

Looks fantastic fun! Never happens here in Ireland, we play golf in the winter (when it's not raining). Gerry

Gorgeous colours and fantastic ice David! We don't often see that perfect a freeze. My husband loved it when the lake near his parents' farm did that....he said it was an unbelievable experience to go out and skate on it and see the fish swimming beneath. :D

Thanks! I'm not sure how the conditions are in Canada but around Stockholm the temperature usually goes over and under the freezing point several times during the winter. This gives perfect conditions to find clear ice without snow on it. So skating is very popular here, the largest club for "nature skating" in Stockholm has over 13.000 members!

Nature skating! What a great idea -- beautiful photo, thank you for sharing. I notice the skates have long blades, not as long as racing speed skates, but much longer than the skates that are common here for hockey or figure skating. Do you have "nature" skates for this?

David Thyberg, on January 8, 2008, said:

Yes, we have special skates for this. They are as long as speed skates, around 50cm. You can detach them from your boots so you can walk between lakes for example. A typical day trip can be around 50 km. Not without dangers but it's very fun!

Aha! A little work on the web found "Nordic Skates" available in US & Canada, which clip on to your Cross-country skiing boots, keeping your feet warm. They seem similar to your picture. I don't get to skate here in Vancouver, but it would have been nice while in Alberta at Christmas.
