Cheers Rom@nce. New Zealand doesn't have many birds, and only one animal (a lizard), so it is an interesting place. The behaviour of the birds such as the weka and the kiwi is indicative of the absence of predators (until the European introduction of stoat and weasel!
Outstanding strange bird...
Greetings oronbb. As there were no land animals (except one lizard) in NZ, the native birds include ground dwellers such as this weka and also the kiwi. Neither can fly.
This fellow looks thoughtful
New Zealand had no animals, except for one lizard! So flightless birds developed/survived. This fellow was unconcerned about my presence, concentrating, as you suggest, on finding food on the shallow bed of the fiord.
