Scott Street Bridge. Kingston upon Hull. Lifting road bridge over the River Hull, has been fixed permanently in the "up" position rather than kept in service. Given that bridges over the river are not exactly plentiful this decision is difficult to understand. The original hydraulic system which operated from Machell Street was damaged during the war and eventually abandoned in 1957. Built in 1901-02 to allow road access from Scott Street on the west (city centre) side to Jenning Street. Now permanently open to river traffic. It is very unique as it has a 90 degree bend, on the west side, in the road, as it crosses the river Hull, I belive it is the oldest bridge in the river Hull in the City of Kingston upon Hull. In its heyday when horses where the main vehicles on the road the bend was not a problem. However for safety reasons after a number of Lorries trying to use it. The bridge is now always open, to river traffic only.
