Nice shot of an adult Brown pelican. Kudos to the photographer. This is another species that got hit hard by DDT. As of 2009 they've reclaimed a lot of their historic west coast territory, but few if any of their historic west coast breeding sites. Mexico avoided DDT so most of "our" birds still breed south of the border even though DDT (a pesticide) was banned in the U.S. in 1972.
