Birkenmoor Langbett (8)
Remains of a rectangle shaped 28m x 7m long barrow, close to Birkenmoor Langbett (8), like a twin. There are two burial chambers, extended dolmens.
Birkenmoor is a part of Schwedeneck, on the 'Daenischer Wohld' peninsula between Kiel and Eckernfoerde.
Located at the 'Osdorfer Landstrasse' L44, not far from the street.
The barrow has been examined in 1950, with excavations of those two chambers. In that time only the two capstones were visible, the western one already broken in three parts.
Under the middle capstone is an extended dolmen with 2 pairs of uprights plus a passage to the south again with 2 pairs of uprights. Size of the chamber 2.25m x 0.9m, the capstone is apprx. 2.5m x 1.8
Nowadays the western chamber is visible, because one of the parts of the broken capstone has been moved away, resting close to the chamber. Typical extended dolmen, again two pairs of uprights on the long sides. Chamber size approx. 2m x 1.3m
The long rows of kerbstones consisted of approx. 20 stones. In 1936 Schwieger counted 11 remaining stones on the NW side, and 12 on the SE side.
