West view of Wood Lake (left) and Kalamalka {KAL} lake (right). The two lakes are separated by a thin strip of land partly formed from an ancient beaver dam. This Area is named Oyama, elevation = ~395m. A narrow channel for boats was placed in the early 1900's thus equalizing the levels of both lakes. Kal lake is famous for its many colours (as seen) as the tempurature, turbidity of the water and angle of sunlight create its unique beauty. The intersection of Oyama (Hwy 97) Northbound to Vernon is rated #1 scenic drive in the Okanagan. Photo taken from Oyama Lake Forest Service Road.
