The Crooked House is in the High Street, Lavenham.
Remember the nursery rhyme? "There was a crooked man and he walked a crooked mile...."

I certainly do remember this nursery rhyme
" . . He found a crooked sixpence upon a crooked stile. He bought a crooked cat, which caught a crooked mouse. And they all lived together in a little crooked house"
but have only just discovered that its origins are in British history at the time of the Stuart King, Charles I.
In a contemporary context it might well refer to the denizens of a certain House in London SW1, the financial oligarchs of the nearby "Square Mile" to whom they are beholden and the stile on a path leading to some green fields in County Durham.
Peter C Byron, on December 17, 2007, said:
Well commented John.
