VERY old alley! We don't have anything half this old in Canada. I like the perspective, and the lighting's very interesting.
Vasco Pires, on July 27, 2007, said:
Thanks! In fact this lightning was achieved by using exposure bracketing and then blending the three photos with tone mapping technique. The simple shot is not as great as this one. I don't know the age of this houses but I would say at least three hundred years

Thanks Marcelo, Syl and Chip! You surprised me, I thought this one wasn't going to be as appelative as it turn out to be.

Here are two different views of the same alley, taken by a different user. http://www.panoramio.com/photo/2399357
and http://www.panoramio.com/photo/2399385
They are both bad located so I'm contesting their position. I hope he relocates them

Hi Vasco I don't understand what you did with the photo(and not for the language),but like it very much. The light and the colors.Yellow star. Ciao Daniela

Thanks Daniela! Tone mapping techique (HDR) is a technique often used by professional photographers. It is done using exposure bracketing, and then blending the three resulting photos with a software called photomatix.
You can know more about this subject visiting this thread in the forum.
I have uploaded the complete version that I shot of this Alley
Hope you understand my English
Cheers

Thank you Vasco.Sure I understand your English, would only write as you do,I understand more than I can write. The only problem for me at the moment is that I don't understand how to use the layers in PS.I need someone who show me. The complete version of the Alley is beautiful like this.I understand now how a lot of the photos in panoramio have been done. Thanks again Daniela
Vasco Pires, on August 5, 2007, said:
Well, actually I didn't use photoshop on this one, only photomatix. I will try to help you the better I can. And I know what you mean... some of the greatest photos on Panoramio that I before felt beeing a little 'strange' and professional, are made with this technique

Hi Vasco,
I didn't know you were so good with HDR/tone mapping techniques ! "Chapeau bas !" once again :))
I am training myself with this technique for a couple of days and I hope I will get results, because it's really amazing ! I'm trying to work with Photomatix and with FDR Tools and the results are very different. It seems I prefer Photomatix.
I will try to post 1 or 2 HDR shots in the next few days (probably 3D ones that are already in Panoramio, but with tone mapping applied).

Thanks Olivier, but in fact i'm just a beginner innthis technique, The credits all go to photomatix, I almost don't have to do anything..
I am keen to see your own HDR's but I must state that the effect looks far better if you use three REAL different exposures, and not three images wich have been level variations of a single image taken before. That can work also, but is very limited specially if you shoot them in jpg instead of raw
scrat, on August 9, 2007, said:
Thanks for the advice, Vasco. That's what I have noticed while trying to get some result :(
I think it will take much more time than I announced yesterday ...
But I don't give up :)

Thanks, Vasco. Part of my problem may be that my two most recent HDR posts were from JPG's with EV's of -0.39, 0, +0.63, and 1.63. Should be enough variation, but working from JPG's isn't ideal.
The stump was was merged from three CCD-RAW images shot with wide dynamic range to begin with and withe EV's -1.5, 0, and +1.5. Still, the results were disappointing. I've put up a thread in the Help and Support forum, begging for suggestions.
Vasco Pires, on August 10, 2007, said:
Keep going Chip! You'll get there! I've also taken a while until I uploaded my first HDR! You have great hardware potencial with auto bracketing and raw files, and also a great landscape potential in yosemite park. Be sure to take advantage of them.
Cheers

Thanks, again, Vasco. I've been trying both Photomatix and Dynamic Photo HDRI. So far I'm having better luck with Dynamic Photo. I find its tools easier and more intuitive, but that's a matter of taste. Also, Dynamic Photo's trial version doesn't plaster the output with watermarks. I've got a lot more to do before making a decision on which one to buy, and even more before I post any more HDR.

I will probably try out Dynamic photo HDRI before making a decision myself. But I'm inclined to buy (or pirate) photomatix pro. My next step will be trying to make 3d hdr's. The major problem is deciding wich to do first: make the HDR's before taking them to SPM. Or making three different exposure 3D pairs in SPM and then make an HDR from them. It can be very tricky.
I will also start thinking about making 360º HDR panos, but that can be even harder since I don't have automatic bracketing. I have to manually shoot at least 36 shots to do it, regarding I do only one level 360º panos, or else I would have to shoot 72 shoots to do a two level 360º pano!!! not to mention if I decide to do a 5 exposure bracketing in wich case I would have to shoot around 120 shots just to do a pano!!.. ah ah!! can you believe it? I must be out of my mind! Anyway the problem is the same. stich before HDR or HDR before stitch?
Chip Stephan, on August 10, 2007, said:
Tricky, yes. I can see problems both ways. I think I'll try creating the HDR's first, then taking them to SPM, That way even though I'll have to do the HDR alignment twice, I'll only have to do the 3d alignment once, with images that won't get realigned again. If I create three pairs of 3d images, I think it will be a very tricky job doing the alignment for HDR, since the 3d alignment may well have made them unsuitable for HDR. It's just a guess, and I won't know until I try.
3D, HDR, 360° panos are for me the equivalent of a trip to Mars. A lot of preparation required.

Obrigado Avelino.
Esta ficou com um efeito interessante, embora esteja demasiado exagerado para ser um bom HDR.

Here a product of HDR too. I am just a beginner. I took 5 basic pictures and tonemapped from jpg. It takes a lot of time to find out what settings give good results.
