Mishima-Taisha Shrine with crowd

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

I was born in the city of Mishima, where this shrine is located. This shrine was built in the era of Heian, to have jurisdiction over province of Izu. Now this shrine is famous for being filled with crowds of worshipers on the New Year's Day. A Japanese province in the era was called kuni, that is just like a small state in medieval times of Europe.
