This is the Athabasca Ride On sand dunes

The photo is of an active sand dune that was reactivated when surface cover was broken. Stability in the adjacent area is also precarious so the dune area could easly grow in size. Farther north on the south shore of Lake Athabasca very large active sand dunes exist.

This the actually Richardson Sand Dunes.

Actually in fact this is Emerus Sand Dunes and not Richardson. Richardson Sand Dunes are located to the southeast. In 2006 there was a 5000 hectare wildfire west of the dunes which will help in the enlargement of the total overall dune area.

These are the Richardson sand dunes between the Athabasca river and the Richardson river. The Athabascan Dunes are larger and S.E. closer to the Maybelle river.
