An Acient Stump (4100 yrs old)

I see you like to travel, this is an interesting capture, thank you for sharing. Looks like a White Oak. Is it?

It is actually a spruce tree that was buried when the land suddenly dropped into the sea where it was buried by sand and resurfaced after a storm released it and it washed up on shore 4100 yrs later (in 1998).

Dana, I'm so glad you posted this picture. What an awesome story behind this stump. We're making a trip to Oregon coast the 3rd week in Oct and I would love to see this. You've posted this picture in Beverly Beach State Park on the east side of the hiway. Do you remember anything else that would help me in locating it? Sadly, there won't be buttercups in bloom when I'm there, but that won't stop me. Do you have your visiting teaching done yet?

I just noticed the coordinates and plotted them into my trip planner map. Is there a trail that leads off the road. How did you learn about this old stump?

It is quite easy to find. It is right near the parking lot at Beverly Beach SP. I double checked my pointer and it is really just right there near that river. It is an interesting thing I don't think many people pay attention to.
