Tug Boat (1932) Ned Hanlan on dry land

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

The Tug Boat, stood near the Stanley Baracks since 1971. Now (June 2012) relocated to Toronto Island, as per info from the moving crew. I saw them moving it as I was biking by one day in June.

Designed by naval architect John Stephen, the 75 ft. (23 m.) long, 184-ton vessel.. Ned Hanlan was built by the Toronto Dry Dock Company in its shipyard located on the north side of Villiers St. in today’s Portlands. Ned was launched in 1932 until retired from active service in 1967 ..

Ned Hanlan 1880-84 - World single-sculls rowing champion (defended championship six times). Ned Hanlan was Canada’s most prominent athlete of the 19th century, at a time when rowing was one of this country’s most popular spectator sports. Born on Toronto Island, Hanlan learned to row in Toronto Bay, using the route to go back and forth to school or to transport bootleg liquor for his father, depending on who was telling the story. His father operated a hotel on Toronto Island, and the press would later use Hanlan’s Irish, working-class roots to style him as a hero of Canada’s working people.

not sure, they move it to the island, since the marine museum closed down many years ago..

I think it is just sitting somewhere on the beach for photo opportunity.

next time I am on the island, i will look for it!
