Hi Keith!I mean why this wonderful street in abandoned and delapidated condition is?

Keith Ruffles on May 5, 2011

Hi Diggory,

There's a couple of reasons why this street was abandoned when I took the photo in July 2006. It's an interface area between the Catholic/Nationalist Short Strand and the surrounding Protestant/Unionist area, which means that it has seen a lot of rioting and other disturbances.

A lot of these houses have since been demolished; if you have a look on Google Earth and Google Street View you'll see that it now looks different from what you can see in the photo. A lot of the poorer quality housing in Belfast is being replaced with better buildings.
