Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

St Lawrence’s Chapel, also known as ‘The Chapel in the Wilderness’, is thought to have been originally founded by Cistercian monks from Dieulacres Abbey at Leek in the 13th century. It began to be used for services for the local people in 1386, but remained subordinate to the parish church at Leek until it became a parish church in its own right in the 19th century.
