Hi David, Dartmoor can be very bleak, it can quickly become covered in thick mist , and driving rain and snow. There have been many unfortunate tragedies with people dying of exposure or drowning in swollen streams. Dartmoor is also the setting of the Sherlock Holmes story the Hounds of the Baskervilles. The higher hills called tors have very thin soil and therefore are mainly treeless, but in the valleys there are several forests and woods. Regards Geoff
