Taken with a 4-stop circular polarizer filter, stacked on top of a 4-stop neutral density filter.

Thank you! This is an example where I felt the filters came in particularly useful (even combined with -1.33 compensation!). The highlights of the flower were getting clipped without all the stops. Overall the scene is a little dark but I feel like the emphasis is where it needs to be.

Hey Kevin, this is really very nice! No more overexposure for you I see, -1.33 proves to be very effective here. I have no experience with filters, so I don't know what they added to this splendid photo. I have tried these white lilies myself, but nothing came even close to this result!

Jeroen, I'm glad you like this one - it has practically become my favortie photo overnight. I was considering linking this one to the "critique forum" but haven't decided - I really like it just the way it is!

I've become an instant fan of the lens filters. They seem to add a bit of depth to color and slightly stronger contrast. I achieved a very similar result to this picture without the filters where I used a far faster shutter speed. When I compare the two side-by-side, the difference is really obvious in the flower petals.

Thanks again!

hahaha! or maybe just a glutton for punishment, Jeroen!! Just wait till everyone's surprise to learn the only edits were contrast adjustment and crop at the bottom!! hehehehe!

It is beautiful but I wonder you used the polarizer and the 4-ND filter... Was the place too bright? Why didn't you just use 200 ISO? Don't you like the results using that ISO? I have a photo with which you can compare exposure, f/stop and ISO.

Best regards

Draken, The filters were part of a continued experiment. Actually this wasn't really a bright shot at all. This was mid-day but the subject was in the shade. I felt like the biggest advantage to the filters were to help with the contrast in the flower petals. I don't recall the last photo I took above ISO 100 - it seems like every time I exceed ISO 100, I get in trouble with a lot of noise in the photo.

PS - I'm very glad you like this one - thanks!

Beautiful image Kevin. I could use this in Nawita's 'I have one like that thread'. Is that OK?

Brian, I took a look at the "...one like that" forum. It strikes me as being dual role ... 1) check it out, these are similar, and 2) it also feels like a head-to-head comparison of photos.

What do you think the primary interest is in folks that participate there?

Hi Kevin. When Nawitka started it, most people interpreted the purpose as showcasing different shots of the same place. Others, like me, see it as equally valid to showcase similar images from different places. I'm sure Nawitka would confirm that both approaches are fine with her. The forum moderators sometimes get a bit concerned about perceived breaches of etiquette (or even copyright - I've never understood that) if someone posts another's photos in the forums without permission. My own position is that, if someone wants to showcase mine by linking them with theirs in some way that isn't rude, abusive or offensive, go for it. I need the publicity!
