2 of the Lord Palmerston Victorian fortifications dating from 1860 to 1880 can be seen. Spitbank fort and No Man's Land fort in the distance. A ring of defensive forts were built around Portsmouth to defend the Royal Navy base against attack and invasion from the French. Photo taken from the Gosport shore at Haslar looking South East.
