Henry the Navigator was the third child of King John I of Portugal, the founder of the Aviz dynasty, and of Philippa of Lancaster, the daughter of John of Gaunt.

In 1387 John of Gaunt left his daughter Philippa to seal the Anglo-Portuguese Alliance made in the previous year, being the Treaty of Windsor.

This treaty is claimed to be the oldest alliance in the world which is still in force.

Darn fine set of wiggles you got there Peter they certainly draw in the eye.

As usual a most interesting history lesson. But I found this whole era most difficult to get through, which puzzles me.

All the best from the New World.
