Another beauty - how do you get the gradations out from the sun so smooth ? I always seem to get very obvious banding when I have a sun like that.

I just woke up 5 hours after going to sleep on an epic consumption of alcohol and bad singing feeling oddly fantastic (I'm either dead and surviving one's brain is a fantastic experience, or my hangover is waiting over the horizon to hit me like a tsunami), so it's nice to read nice comments.
The sky was the only part of this shot, Neil, that was correctly exposed. :P I didn't do much to the sky. But it certainly helps to shoot in RAW, in as many bits as possible, and to process in RAW (a dedicated processor such as Capture NX2 as opposed to the 8-bit processing of Photoshop). Certainly the quality of the sensor helped here too. In high-contrast situations like this, the FX effect is everything.
Love it! Quite different with a hint of the Hiroshi Yoshida about it! Boat, background, lighting. Sublime and beautiful. Y*
This photo is very impressive. It bring me to think when a nuclear bomb blows in the city. ^_^
