This is nearly a famous tree! After the English Civil War and King Charles I had been deposed and beheaded, England was essentially a republic. The old king's son exiled in France tried to make a return, landing his army in Scotland and advancing South. His army was defeated by Cromwell's well trained troops at the Battle of Worcester and the Prince only escaped on foot and in disguise. He stayed briefly with sympathisers at Boscobel House, but had to hide in an oak tree when soldiers searched the house. The tree in the picture is grown from an acorn of the original which was destroyed by souvenier collectors after the restoration of the monarchy. "The Royal Oak" is still the most popular name for pubs in England. This tree was damaged by recent storms http://www.panoramio.com/photo/3673784

Thanks for the story, muba. I found the photo so beautiful and better if it is a history behind.
