A big shame Unda. It's very old but now, near it's final days! The roof is falling in, so if not fixed up soon, it will be lost for ever, sadly!

Alan, one of the many abandoned houses in Ireland. No people, no school! It doesn't seem to need much to restore it. The roof still keeps the rain off for a while, those walls keep for another century, if well looked after and protected against the dampness. At least you give it life with your documental photo, thank you for this! Warm regards, May

Thanks May. I'm not sure if it is still owned by the Dept. of Education or not. It would make a lovely home and there's plenty of room around it, inside the wall. At the moment, it seems that a local farmer is using it as a storage yard, and unfortunately has knocked down some of the wall at the gate to make it wider.

Hello Douglas. I have just spoke to my father. Mr Samuel Doherty from Coleraine, Co Derry, was also my father's teacher, though before your time. (My father is aged 87.) He remembers your uncles (I think?) Alex and Hebby (Herbert). He remembers having to visit Jack Chambers farm to get water for the school, before the hand pump was put in along the road, near to the school, (which was still there until recently). He also remembers robbing apples from "Forbes's" orchard! And he can remember the Forbes' having visitors from Belfast! The Forbes' farm was sold and the home has had a few different families living it it since (though it's still known as "Forbes's" at home! The house has been renovated and extended in the last few years.
Daddy was delighted that you made the comment on my photo and is amazed that his photo can be seen, standing in the door of Lisball School, all the way in Australia!
Hope to hear back from you soon Douglas, Alan.
