Backpacking the wilderness coastal strip of Olympic National Park, a trail takes us through rain forest over the top of Taylor Point.

Glad you like it. The tree trunks spread the way they do because they began as seedlings on top of rotting stumps of former giants. The most successful new trees sent roots down the sides of the stump into the ground, and as the old stumps rotted away, the trees were left standing on huge, spreading roots.
