No. I had no ring-flash at that time. The lighting was good, but I still had to lighten the butterfly a bit in post-process. A ring-flash would have make it more natural maybe.

very natural for me in this situation. Nice post-skills !. It seems the bfly is lit via diffused flash (soft shadow etc) but the contrast also and complementary colour appearance is very nice. I use nikkor 60mmf1.9 for such species, but never able to be so parallel to bfly (200 micro would not be bad idea)

The only camera I had at hand was a fuji finepix E550. I'm still amazed that I could take such a picture with a 500$ camera. Since that camera is very light-weight, I was able to crawl very close to the butterfly (I could almost touch it) and hold my camera before me while lying on the ground.
