Since everyone liked so much of this old alley, exceeding by far my expectations. I decided to upload the complete version wich is a two shot, vertical panorama.
Another thing. I was just looking at the area in Google Earth, and found the bridge between Lisbon and Almada is called the 25th of April. Why is that?
I am a bit surprised yes. I thought that it is not very much apelative as a thumbnail so it would not recieve many hits..
That bridge was built by, and was a flag, of the old dictatureship regime, it was named after the Dictator leader (Salazar bridge) When the revolution came and overthrown the dictatureship in 25th April of 1974, the new government renamed the bridge after the revolution date, and made it the new flag of liberty.
25th April here in Portugal is a celebration compared to your 4th of July.
(1st of July. The 4th is American.) Thanks for the information, the name made me curious. I expected something important must have happened on that date.
The Old Alley pictures are intriguing as thumbnails, especially because of the tone-mapping. It looks like the alley's glowing, and it just attracts your attention.
OK, fantastic, and much better in the full version. I'm about to start down the HDR road. My camera has a native HDR mode, but I need the newest version of Photoshop to take full advantage. So, off the photo store today.
Thanks Chip! You're wright about having an updated version of photoshop, but I once again emphasize that I do not use photoshop to make my HDR's, I use photomatix pro and it would cost you another US§99 to register the free demo.
I can't wait to start seeing your HDR material
BTW: What exactly is your camera's hdr function? it blends the three exposures on it's own?

nice pic - seems like handcoloured
i like portugal, lisboa and surrounding, the north like tras os montes, oporto, douro a.s.o. a.s.o.... and of cause the people.
this alley is absolutely beautiful and I love the 'complete' version so much more. I think its the overall dynamic caused by the height features captured by the choice of angle, the detailed weatehring of the walls, the blends and the contrasts of the many colours with a nice subtle centre piece of the steps leading up to the house. Some greenery spices up the colour and 'life' about this picture. Obviously historical thoughts are also conjured up aswell as teh social activities that the alley has witnessed.
