Sacramento is the capital of California, although it is not the biggest city. The Tower Bridge replaced, in 1935, the old M Street Bridge. The new bridge had initially four lanes for cars (like now), plus a center lane for the railroad, which was later removed. The bridge was painted originally gray, but in 1960 it was changed to yellow by public choice. Total length: 737'. Center lift span: 209' long. Lift span height above high water: 100'. Tower height: 160' tall (it has two towers). This is the east-west view, as you exit Sacramento Old Town. 2005.Nov.24.
