That thing looks surreal. It looks a painting more than a hotel.

As always, great shot Matthew!

Matthew Walters, on October 16, 2006, said:

It's an incredible hotel. I was told the gold is gold leaf and real gold, not just paint. Judging by the price of a coffee and cake, I can believe it...

nice picture!!!! congratulations

Matthew Walters, on December 20, 2006, said:

Thanks Oscar. I don't normally go around on my knees, but it was necessary here! It always reminds me of a colour palette.

yes, it seems a pantone catalogue!!! :-)

Julia Wahl, on January 18, 2007, said:

very cool, almost looks like a 3D rendering

Matthew Walters, on January 18, 2007, said:

Thanks - it underlines the 'unreal' feeling of the whole hotel.

Great angle Matthews. OK, we stay here. But where do we eat? you can find out here

Danke. Der ursprüngliche Farbe Entwurf ging hinaus, helles Weiß zu sein ganz darüber, aber der Inhaber wünschte Farbe. Eine gute Entscheidung!

war das eine auftragsarbeit ?

Matthew Walters, on July 12, 2007, said:

Traurig, aber Google übersetzen hat mich lassen doen und ich verstehe nicht. Er übersetzte deine Anmerkung, wie „war eine Auftrag Arbeit?“

commissioned work ?

Matthew Walters, on July 13, 2007, said:

Thanks Rene, no it was just a holiday snap. 1 euro per view would have been nice though :)

Great composition and I adore the shapes and patterns in this one Matthew. You did real well to spot this opportunity. Nice one :)

Did you consider entering the Digital Photographer of the Year 2007 competition? You might yet get the equivalent of a few cents per view!

The interior decorator originally presented the hotel atrium to the Crown Prince of Dubai with a totally white interior. He was unsatisfied. So she came up with the nice colors that your photo wonderfully shows.

andsas1, on August 14, 2007, said:

Whoa looks like the future and dream place

Matthew Walters, on August 14, 2007, said:

Hi scenicplaces, you are right. I think it was a wise decision, plain white would have been very 'clinical'.

Thanks, andas1.

Pics that knock my socks off ... AND you speak how many languages???

©polytropos, on August 16, 2007, said:

Great shot! Disneyland in UAE?

Matthew Walters, on August 16, 2007, said:

Hi Marny. I speak one language (quite shameful really) and use Google Language Tools to do the rest. The photos are all mine, though.

Matthew Walters, on August 16, 2007, said:

Hi polytropos. It's hard to believe it's a hotel atrium isn't it? Fortunately, the one wall is fully glazed, with a white sheet suspended inside - a giant diffuser. This helps keep it all evenly lit.

muy buena

Smiley4554, on August 22, 2007, said:

Hope my viewing helped! Love it! I've always wanted to see this hotel, and your photo makes me feel as if I have!

Gracias, muleey.

Thanks, smiley. I've saved you a small fortune then :)

Matthew Walters, on August 31, 2007, said:

Thanks for the compliments, bartowian, but there are better places to air your political viewpoints.

©bartowian, on September 1, 2007, said:

I thought about that, Matthew, and I welcome your opinion -- but not your censorship. (It is typical: allow them the ability to censor, and they will -- while thinking of themselves as "Not A Censor")

For you are mistaken, Matthew. This is exactly the place to speak up, where better to address the adoring masses uh'ing and ah'ing -- senseless/thoughtless admiration that goes way beyond the art of the photographer or architect. The absurdity of the underlying social situation needs to be reminded of, just as no mention of beautiful "Neuschwanstein" should be made without mention of "Crazy King Ludwig" taking his country into the abiss of bankrupcy. This is no bridge, no tunnel, no dam, no utility construction with added "artful engineering," this is symbolic of absurd and objectionable waste and abuse of the earth's resources -- so the super-rich can feast amongst themselves?!!?

The world is regressing to the era of religious wars and the rich getting obscenely rich while the middle class is becoming poor(er). I didn't survive the 20th century to see the 21st go downhill in reverse without, at least, voicing objections.

Now after you delete this, too, at least put a link in to Gerdi's picture (which was what had me return here only to notice your objections)

Matthew Walters, on September 1, 2007, said:

Hi bartowian. Panoramio is a photo sharing site, not the place to discuss the merits or otherwise of war and politics. Another photo of mine shows the extreme opposites of life in Dubai.

Lyana Luna, on September 7, 2007, said:

That is not right that you speak these words bartowian... The development of engineering in construction has nothing to do with bankruptcy and losing money .. Like what you said .. You often mistaken .. And it seems that you do not like to see more development of the Arab world,,And as Matthew also said this site is not for the political controversy and what lookalike .. But the beauty of the universe from the standpoint of the people of various nationalities.

Thanks, turbica. Dubai is very interesting, there are many contrasts between the expensive hotels and souks. If you go, you should really experience both sides.
