I have find this excellent photo about this fantastic proof of human knowledge of engineering. Because I'm Hungarian, pls. forgive me my pride.
This channel was designed and built between 1882-1893 by Béla Gerster and István Türr, with 4 other Hungarian engineers. Corithos Canal is 6.3 km long, 25 m wide, 8,5 m deep, 4000 people and 450 tons of dinamit neeeded to built. You can see here and read the memorial tablet.
