Very nice indeed. Would you care to share the background story (or some of it)?

David Wilson on July 22, 2010

OK...well this is just a tiny sliver of the interesting back story, I wont go as far back as the dashing young English lieutenant and the beautiful French resistance girl... A typical old style French city centre apartment of which this is the entrance to the block, fiercely guarded by the concierge in her tiny flat off the entrance hall. Owned at that time by some rich French relatives of my then girlfriend. The relatives had moved to the UK after WW2, but maintained the apartment as a holiday home for their large extended family. The place had no mod cons having been effectively preserved in aspic in the early fifties. At that time we were impoverished students and would share costs by inviting friends on holiday with us. My equally snapoholic art student friend wielding his Zenit B is now a well know cartoonist, whose work is regularly seen in the Times and Financial Times. During the day you would keep all the windows and heavy shutters closed which would keep the place surprisingly cool, then in the evening open up to let some fresh air in. This is the view from the dining room out of its only window onto the terrace late afternoon.
