The MT Clipper Bordeaux entering the Western Entrance of Dover Harbour from the English Channel at 5.33 pm on Friday, 25th of June, 2010.

The Western Entrance lies between the Admiralty Pier (out-of-shot to the right) and the Southern Breakwater (out-of-shot to the left).

The zoomed photo was taken from the lighthouse end of the Prince of Wales Pier.

In the murky distance above the bow of the Clipper Bordeaux are two cross-channel ferries: on the left is the Norman Bridge, owned by LD Lines and shown returning from Boulogne (France); on the right is the Pride of Calais, owned by P and O Ferries and shown en route to Calais (France).

The Clipper Bordeaux had previously been waiting in Shakespeare Bay to the west of Dover Harbour for the departure of two cruise ships:

MSC Opera (taken on the 14th of June)

MS Ocean Princess (taken on the 7th of June)

Also see the MT Clipper Bordeaux and Admiralty Pier Light, Western Entrance photo, taken half a minute before the one on this page, which shows the lighthouse at the end of the Admiralty Pier (click to see all lighthouse photos).

The Clipper Bordeaux was built by the Rousse Shipyard J.S.C. of Bulgaria, launched in 2005, and apparently originally called the Crescent Bordeaux. In early 2006 the Rousse Shipyard issued the following press release (1):

Today, January 18, 2006 a new ship hull No 841 was delivered officially to Clipper Tankship Ltd., Southampton, England. The ship has been built under the survey of Lloyd Register. The ship’s name is "Clipper Bordeaux".

Diesel Driven 3400 TDW Oil Tanker.

A Merchant Navy Officers Pension Fund webpage states (2):

Clipper Wonsild Tankers (UK) Limited (formerly Crescent Tankships Ltd)

This probably accounts for the change in the ship's name. Clipper Wonsild Tankers is now part of the Clipper Group.
