David you have a fascinating collection of photos! :D
What is the history of the above Castle?
ayrshireman, on November 9, 2007, said:
Hi Pam, Sorn castle built as a tower castle, built in the 15 century with later additions, built by the "Hamiltons" and been a "Campbell of Loudoun "home since 1680 and now owned by the "Macintyres'!

Hi David :)
It's so interesting to read the changes of families those castles have gone through (the rising and falling of family fortunes?)
It must cost the Macintyres a pretty penny for the upkeep of the above. A Great Aunt of mine went to Barra and MacNeil told her that it cost him around a million American dollars to bring Kisimul castle back from ruin. I was sad to see the current chief of the Clan MacNeil leased the castle to Historic Scotland for 1000 years (but I imagine they will keep the castle from falling into disrepair again).
Greetings, Pam

Hello Pam,after looking at ordnance survey map of this area around 50 miles of coast from my home i have counted "25 castles" some of which there are only small amounts left.

That's good to know David about Historic Scotland.
25 castles! :D We expect to see pictures of all of them David ...... I've said before I'd give my eyeteeth to have one but here the oldest signs of man's habitation are tipi rings (of which I have yet to track down one).

Hello Pam unfortunately I deleted an enormous amount of photos accidentally and will try to get a program to recover them. If I am unable to recover them it will be next spring before I can re-shoot, sorry.

I'll be watching (and to make it even more exciting it will be kilt wearing time by then too ;)
Greetings from Canada, Pam (who is hoping I see a Scot in Scotland wearing a kilt before I post pictures of them being worn here on the plains of Canada :'(
